Paddle on the Pigeon

Paddle the Pigeon River with us! We’ll meet at the Trading Post (7525 E 300 N Mongo, IN 46771) and head 4 miles downstream to Nasby Dam. If folks would like, we can stop to step into some fens that are located along the way.

You’re welcome to bring your own canoe or kayak and put in at the Trading Post. The cost for parking, shuttle, and put-in/take-out is $25 (+ tax) for a single kayak and $30 (+ tax) for a canoe/double kayak.

If you do not have your own canoe or kayak, you can rent one from the Trading Post. 2 person canoes are $46 for the trip, 1 person kayaks are $33, and it is $52 for a 2 person kayak (+ tax). All rentals include life jackets and the return shuttle. We recommend that you make reservations ahead of time at:  https://tradingpostcanoe.com/canoe-kayak-trips/ or 260-367-2493.

We’d like to know how large of group to expect, so if you plan to attend, please RSVP to stuartbheron1@hotmail.com.

Prairie Plant Seed Collection

We’re going to head into the prairie a little early again this year, for the fall harvest. We’ll be after some species that we normally don’t have the opportunity to gather in October.

Meet at the Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes (2955 W. Orland Rd) at 1PM and carpool/caravan to the site(s).

We have all the tools and buckets, just bring your lunch.

Prairie Plant Seed Collection

Every Saturday in October, we travel to different areas of Steuben and LaGrange counties to collect native prairie plant seeds. Come, gather with Blue Heron Ministries friends for the opportunity to fellowship, visit unique natural communities, learn about native plants, and enjoy the autumn harvest. The whole family is welcome! Children often find this to be a fun experience.

We’ll meet at the Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes (2955 W. Orland Rd) at 1PM and carpool to the site(s).

We have all the tools and buckets, just bring your lunch.
