Blue Heron Ministries

An opportunity to be stewards of our Lord's creation within the context of community

Upcoming Events

Blue Heron Birthday Picnic
Saturday, July 17, 2021 5pm

2021 marks Blue Heron Ministries’ 20th year, so come and celebrate with us! We’ll gather at the Wild Turkey Shelter within Trine State Recreation Area for food and fellowship.

The work of BHM is done through the partnership of our Blue Crew (staff) and our Blue Herons (volunteers).  We’d like to know what connects you to Blue Heron Ministries. Do you have a memorable experience, a favorite seed collection location, an activity that you look forward to each year?  Please, come share with us (if you’re unable to join us, drop us a line so that we share it with the group).

Light refreshments, drinks, and table service will be provided. Feel free to bring something to share. Please RSVP to, if you plan to attend.
Trine State Recreation Area is located at 145 W Feather Valley Rd, Fremont, IN 46737.

Pollinator Prairie Plug Planting
Monday, July 19, 2021 from 10:30 – noonish

Blue Heron Ministries partnered with Dirt Wain, LLC. to create an urban composting/fruit and vegetable garden/native landscape demonstration spot in a downtown Fort Wayne neighborhood. We could use your help planting approximately 1,700 prairie plugs within the proposed pollinator garden.

Enjoy the work and comradery as we transform this vacant lot into a little taste of heaven on earth…as best we can anyway! Bring sunscreen, drinking water, and work gloves.

The lot is located at 1701 Bayer Ave. Fort Wayne, IN 46805

Lakes Country V.I.P. Tour
Friday, August 13 from 9 AM – 4 PM

V.I.P. stands for “Vorks in Progress”. That’s German for “come see what Blue Heron Ministries’ stewards have been up to lately”. The idea is to highlight examples of restoration projects in the area. Two van-loads of folk can tour project sites within a 20 mile radius of the heart of Steuben County. We will try to stop at as many sites as time allows, while explaining restoration tasks and techniques and taking time to see some of the wonders of God’s creation. Be prepared for short hikes on unstable ground or feel free to stay in the air-conditioned van.

Sack lunches will be provided, and we have spots for 28 passengers.

Please reserve your seat by calling/texting 260/316-2498 or emailing at R.S.V.P. on or before Monday, August 9.
